Theatre Design

Since gaining a first class degree in theatre design from Birmingham I have worked as a freelance theatre designer on numerous productions throughout the country. As Associate designer at the Theatre Royal in Northampton I designed the lavish restoration comedy 'The Way of the World' by Congreve and more recently 'Get up and Tie your Fingers' a piece based on the lives of the fishermen and women in the 19th Century which was staged at the Sage Gateshead.
Much of my work involves taking stories out to the community ie; Shout, a play about firemen which toured firestations, Medieval Miracle toured churches and Trafford Tanzi toured Wrestling rings in the Midlands!
Since moving to Newcastle I have designed several productions for C.T.C which tour schools and community venues taking imaginative tales to a young audience.
I particularly enjoy designing for children and my eye for colour and texture is evident in such recent shows for MONSTER PRODUCTIONS on The Tree of Life and a Handful of Sand.

In contrast, I have designed all of Open Clasp Theatre companies productions which are all contemporary plays based on the lives of women in the North East.
During the 1990's I designed 13 productions for Eastern Angles theatre co. Ipswich. Taking local tales to rural venues throughout East Anglia, also christmas productions in the Sir John Mills theatre .
I enjoy the variety of work I am offered and was recently commissioned to design Jill Halfpenny's themed Art Deco wedding!

I have experience in set and costume design, set painting, costume making, buying, budgeting and hiring, working to a tight budget and short time schedule and am not easily daunted!
My work reflects my love of colour and texture and I'm always on the look out for a bargain or an unusual way to use an everyday object.
